Sariful Islam

Sariful Islam is the Coordinator at the International Research Center of SIMEC Institute of Technology, Dhaka. He has recently submitted his doctoral thesis titled “Envisioning Solution to the “Refugee Crisis”: A Postcolonial Analysis of Rohingya Perspective” to the Department of International Relations (DoIR), South Asian University (SAU), New Delhi, India. As part of his MPhil degree at DoIR SAU in 2019, Islam wrote a dissertation titled “Hosting Rohingya Refu-gees: Explaining the Factors Influencing Bangladesh’s “Humanitarian” Response.”

He went to SAU in 2015 to obtain his second master’s degree in international relations. After completing the MA program in IR, he enrolled in the MPhil/PhD program at the same institution in 2017. Before going to India to pursue higher studies, he earned his bachelor’s degree and first master’s degree from the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism at the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. During his university student life and after the post-graduation, he worked in several media houses, namely Daily Bhorer Dak, Daily Sangbad, Banglanews24.com and Somoy News (Somoy TV) for nearly five years as Sub-Editor/Newsroom Editor.

His research interests include postcolonial theory, agency of the refugees, refugees and borders, South Asian ethnic nationalism, the international relations of Bangladesh, media and international politics, blue economy of Bangladesh, and non-traditional security.
